Referrals to Southcity Clinic are usually made through a GP or
other healthcare professional in the alcohol and other drug
field.
If you are unsure as to the appropriateness of the referral you
are welcome to telephone the clinic and consult with a member of the
clinic staff.
The assessment process has two components:
- an initial interview with one of the counselling clinicians at
the clinic
- a medical assessment with one of the alcohol and other drug
medical specialists.
Where possible clinic staff will endeavour to arrange these two
appointments on the same day. However, due to time constraints this
is not always possible. In some situations the medical appointment
will be on the day following the assessment interview.
The referer or patient must make the initial appointment
To meet funding requirements and assist in the development of an
appropriate treatment plan it is important that a referral letter be
provided to the clinic either prior to or at the commencement of the
assessment interview.
