Towards Better Outcomes Southcity Clinic has
the expertise and experience to address substance misuse and
dependence issues and offer services aimed at achieving better
outcomes for our patients and the community.
Therefore, over the next few years, the Clinic will build
on its core business to offer: Expanded services to the
patient population. Better resources for GPs and other
healthcare providers to manage substance-dependent patients, and
develop services for local business and industry.
To achieve better outcomes we will: Identify
gaps in current service delivery and develop services to complement
and support existing activities in the Southern Metropolitan Region.
Work in partnership with other local agencies to address gaps in
service delivery.
Clinically, we will: Identify the unmet needs
of complex, multi-diagnosis patients with a view to broadening the
Clinic's services to this group. Expand the clinical consulting
role offered to other healthcare professionals. Take an active
role in expanding the number of GPs prescribing methadone and other
alternative pharmacotherapies. Update and broaden staff
knowledge and skills to ensure current and emerging needs and
treatment modalities are covered.
Educationally, we will: Provide enhanced
education and support to GPs and other healthcare professionals
which complement and support our clinical work. Expand the
shared care and mentoring role of the Clinic. Provide effective
basic and advanced training options for a range of healthcare
professionals. Address attitudinal barriers amongst GPs,
practice staff and other health professionals to working effectively
with substance-dependent patients
