There are a range of treatment options available in Australia
to people to wish to decrease or stop their heroin
use. They include:
Abstinence
models such as therapeutic communities and outpatient
counselling and
Non-abstinence
models including the use of pharmacotherapies such
as Methadone, Buprenorphine and Naltrexone.
The aims of
these non-abstinence models are to provide appropriate medication
and encourage a reduction in harm resulting from drug use.
The treatments offered by Southcity Clinic fit within the
non-abstinence model. In light of this it is pharmacotherapy
treatment (which fits within this model) which will be discussed
here.

different types of pharmacotherapy treatment available for heroin
